Our first and hopefully not our last Contra dance. We have Gareth Kiddier on keyboard. Will Allen playing fiddle and melodeon, and Nicola Scott calling.

The plan is to start with some introduction for beginners at 7:30 moving into dancing at 8:00.

Newcomers to contra dancing are very welcome and wanted. Dancing is done with a partner in company with many other couples to form longways sets. However, there is no need to come with a partner as you can always find people to dance with on the night.

What is a Contra? It’s usually a long line, working in groups of four people, couple one and couple two. Couple one progress down the set with each time through the dance. Movements include cirles, stars and always a ‘swing your partner’. Overall the style of dance is for each movement to fit smoothly into the next blending into an almost hypnotic continuous sequence of movements. This is at Morganstown Village Hall which is just a few minutes of the A 470 north of Cardiff which has several parking spaces. There will be no bar but you are free to bring your own drinks and take them away afterwards. Thank you.
